When a tooth is fractured it can cause significant pain and sensitivity. Even if you can live with the discomfort, the fractured tooth enamel could eventually start to accumulate bacterial deposits. In time this could cause a severe cavity to affect the tooth.

If Dr. Adam Rauzman thinks there isn’t sufficient tooth enamel remaining to bond a dental filling, he might recommend a dental crown restoration.

This is a near perfect replica of the original tooth enamel layer cast from a special material such as porcelain, gold, or a base metal alloy. The interior of the crown is hollow, so it can be anchored on an abutment created from the healthy dentin layer of the tooth.

Once Dr. Adam Rauzman has cleared away any remaining tooth enamel he will prepare an impression of the abutment and any related teeth in the area. This will be sent to a dental lab where your permanent crown will be created by highly trained dental technicians.

When the dental crown is ready Dr. Adam Rauzman’s staff will call you to schedule a brief second appointment. Once Dr. Adam Rauzman cements it onto the abutment your newly restored tooth will last you for many years to come.

If you live in the Hawthorne, New Jersey, area and you have suffered a chipped or fractured tooth, you should call 973-427-4201 to have it treated at Adam Rauzman, DDS.
